Blog Entry #6: Logo Parodies that speak the truth

1. Describe the logo using the language of the Elements and Principles of Design.
The design of the Earth is symmetrical. The droplets of oil on the bottom varies in size. The cup of oil is positioned at the top of the picture to show that oil is going to cover the Earth. The oil is covering half of the Earth showing that later, the whole Earth would be covered in oil.

2. Describe the symbols used in the logo. Why did the graphic artist use such imagery?
There are three symbol used in this logo. The first is the cup of oil symbolizing BP's oil leakage. Second the Earth is symbolizing the Earth itself. The third symbol is the oil which represents the overflow of oil caused by BP's leakage.

3. What does this logo say of BP's coroporate identity?
The logo is exaggerating by saying that if BP doesn't stop the oil leakage soon, the whole Earth would be covered in oil in the future. This logo is very appropriate in describing the way BP is right now.

Blog Entry #5: Digital Actors

1. Is this acting or is this animation?
2. Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?
3. Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?

1. Both of them because the actor is acting the action of the characters while the animation changes the way the characters look.

2. I don't think the animated character can receive the awards because they are not real people, they are just effects to change the way the characters look. It's not fair to the real actors who played the emotions.

3. The human actors won't become obsolete because humans are always be needed to create the voice and the emotions for the animated characters. Also, not all people enjoy watching animation films because they are often for younger people and it will be so boring if there aren't any different types of emotion portrayed

Blog Entry #4: From Spray Can to light: Graffiti Revisited

light graffiti:

In this piece of light graffiti i have chosen, the light graffiti shows a message: I Love the Earth. The colours used in each symbol is well chosen, red for the heart, green and blue for the Earth. We have to protect the Earth because we love it! There might be big problems awaiting, like global warning. If we continue to hurt the Earth, the days will come, and no one knows when it is. Let's do something to protect the Earth before the days approach.

street graffiti:
When i first saw this picture, it was so scary and realistic. This piece of graffiti shows a street with water between rocks that split open the ground.  There's some fire with it involved. It's so horrible, it seems like the cars almost fall into the water. This artist is very unique with his work of graffiti. He changed a normal road to something we might call "hell." The graffiti also plays mind tricks in viewer's minds, whether to not take this road or walk through like a brave soldier. But overall it is a wonderful piece of graffiti but yet horrifying.

Blog Entry #3: Mashups and Copyright Law

Example 2:
1. What is this mash-up trying to communicate? Is it technical experiment, social or political commentary, a comedic parody, or an abstract work of media art?
I think this mash-up is trying to communicate by using a comedic parody. The mash-up is explaining to the public how copyright laws are working using short clips from Disney movies.
2. Did its creator follow or break copyright laws in its production?
The creator followed copyright laws in its production. I know because the author shows all the movies he used, and his teammates who made it with him in the credits.
3. Do you think that mash-up like this requires copyright permission? Why or why not.
Mash-ups like this should require copyright permission. The maker of this video did not make the clips; he stole it from the original owner, Disney. He only put the clips together, not make the movies of Disney.

Blog Entry #2: A Look at Music Videos

Initial reaction: What are your immediate thoughts and observations when you view the music video?
I thought that this video matches the lyrics and title pretty well. There are some scenes that may not be appropriate, but teenagers encounter them from time to time. But overall, this video was quite interesting is enjoyed my many people including myself.
Analysis and interpretation: Describe the Principles of Media Arts as they appear in the music video. Why do you think the musician, musical group, or director created this music video? What themes are promoted in this video? Are they aligned with Gospel Values, or do they counter them?
In this music video, there were not many principles of media arts, it was all just natural acting likes driving a car, dancing, jumping into a lake. I think the Katy Perry made this music video because it is one of the most popular songs out there. Also she might have made this video to achieve some awards or nominations. There weren’t any Gospel values in this music video mostly because it just portrays a teenager's life.
Consideration of cultural context: What events may have influenced the musician, musical group, and director to create this music video?
Since Katy Perry is pretty young, she might have made this video to show how life was for her in a teenager's point of view. I also think the Katy Perry made this music video because it is one of the most popular songs out there. Also she might have made this video to achieve some awards or nominations. But to public, it is entertainment for us and money for her.
Expression of aesthetic judgment: How does the cinematography, acting and performance, choreography, storyline, special effects, lyrics, and musicality work together in the music video? How do the visuals affect your admiration or disdain for the song?
The music video was very well put together. The scenes matched the lyrics exceptionally well; the storyline was portrayed with love very well, the choreography was smooth where each scene was linked to the next, and the acting matches the song very well. The music video’s visuals painted a good picture in my mind after viewing it. Every time I listen to this song, I could see what is happening throughout.
Ongoing reflection: How has your chosen music video influenced your reception of the song?
The music video for teenage dream didn’t influence me much because the title mostly says it all. I can already guess many events in the music video like couples, going to beaches, etc. But the music video overall was great, the scenes were well matched with the lyrics.
